Businessday: Global software group Symantec says the amount of websites with malicious content blocked each day increased by 70,8% since May this year to 5415 sites last month."This reflects the rate at which websites are being compromised or created for the purpose of spreading malicious content. Often this number is higher when Web-based malware is in circulation for a longer period of time to widen its potential spread and increase its longevity," Symantec said in its intelligence report for June 2011. At the launch of Symantec.Cloud at the Westcliff in Johannesburg today, Mark Smissen, commercial manager for Africa at Symantec, said one in 76 e-mails that Symantec sees in SA contains viruses. The global trend for last month was every one in 208 e-mails contained viruses. Smissen says that SA is not in the top five countries for spamming but that’s only because of poor connectivity issues.
