By Mikhail Aristov, Grigory Shabanov, The Moscow Borodino Panorama has opened after reconstruction. The building in Kutuzov Avenue shows a new face to visitors. The gigantic circular panorama, 115m long and 15m high, depicting the general battle of the 1812 War against Napoleon, has been restored. A new lighting system has been installed and the museum building has been face-lifted. Hundreds of rare historical exhibits have been added to the display. In the summer of 1812, Napoleon’s army crossed the Russian border. Later, when in exile, the defeated French Emperor admitted that out of his 50 battles ‘the Battle of Moscow showed his army’s greatest valour and least success. The French proved themselves worthy of gaining a victory and the Russians deserved the right to be inconvincible’.
