Varsha Torgalkar: A wish to contribute to a social cause or two is on the minds of many people. Not knowing how to give back to society is an obstacle that prevents people from doing charitable work. Although a number of social organisations claim to be working for the uplift of weaker sections of society, people doubt their authenticity, for whatever reasons. The timings of events like marathons, which are organised for a social cause, are such that people may find it difficult to attend them. Understanding all aspects, Infinity Squared, an NGO comprising students, is organising ‘Paintball Encounter 2012’, a fun event to raise funds for education of underprivileged children. People willing to donate money for the cause and also interested in fun games can participate. The three-day event will start at Lahari Resorts, Patancheru, on April 6th. Ticketing money will be donated to three projects named Jal, Gyan, Vigyan. The project Jal aims to provide safe drinking water facilities to seven government schools. Under the Gyan project, poor students will get study material like notebooks and pens. “Project Vigyan is innovative. We found out that the pass percentage of students from government schools studying SSC is only 30%. Most students fail as they do not understand basic concepts. We will teach students through visual mediums like animation to make them understand basic concepts in Science, History and Mathematics,” said Manikant, a member of Infinity Squared.“As far as fun is concerned, people will be more than happy with ‘Paintball Encounter 2012’. The game will be organised in a half-acre open space. It is something like a mock battle. Participants will be given guns that have paint balls in them, instead of bullets. They will get an experience of being in a battle ground. People should aim at others and shoot and at the same time avoid balls from other people’s guns,” said Manikant. A game to shoot 50 paint balls will cost Rs 350. “It will depend on how a player will play. It can take five minutes or it can go on for hours,” said Manikant. Infinity Squared, a registered body, provides socially conscious students and young professionals a platform to serve society and bridge the gap between the learned and the unlearned through education. It successfully organised ‘Go Green for Cancer’, a campaign to build hope in children affected with cancer. The campaign was held on 26th December 2010. It also launched ‘Skip a Meal’ campaign, which involved donating money equal to a meal, that evoked tremendous response. Source: The Hans India ***
