CNN-IBN felicitates Inspirational Indians

New Delhi: In today’s times, where every second we hear about disasters, scandals and conflicts plaguing our country, we fail to highlight positive side of mankind. To recognise the inspirational stories of everyday Indians, who are doing their bit to bring about a positive change, CNN-IBN, in partnership with Jaypee Group, announced 14 winners of the inaugural edition of India Positive Awards in a glittering ceremony held at The Taj Palace Hotel, New Delhi. India Positive Awards delves into India’s hidden resource that cradles the wounded, makes peace among communities and improves lives of others with their selfless acts. These awards bring to light stories that celebrate the basic goodness in every Indian. Acid Victim Sonali Mukherjee was felicitated with the Undying Spirit Award for her undeterred fight to bring her assailants to justice, who attacked her with acid in 2003 for complaining against them for eve-teasing. Sonali wants stricter laws to deal with acid attack cases. The Special Achievement Awards were presented to Col. DPK Pillay who saved lives of two critically injured kids in a Manipur village; Manohar Aich, the 100 years old former Mr. Universe who still pursues his passion of body building and stands as a sport icon for many and Vir Menon, the first Indian sailor to have ever qualified into the Gold Fleet of Laser 4.7 Worlds. India Positive Awards adheres to a process of selection which has the IBN Editorial Board at its core. This Board nominates, deliberates, and after many levels of scrutiny, finalises the winners, keeping in mind their inspirational stories and contribution. The Grand Finale of the awards ceremony will be telecast on CNN-IBN on 20th October 2012. Speaking about the awards, Rajdeep Sardesai, Editor-in-Chief, CNN-IBN, IBN7 & IBN-Lokmat, said, “India Positive aims to explore and spread the goodness of Indians, who enrich the lives of others and the society at large and these Awards are an effort to acknowledge the initiatives by such optimistic people who are a source of inspiration to fellow Indians.” Source: Media News Line
