Leading Russian experts have assessed the country’s solar energy potential.Electricity generated at the thermal and nuclear power stations is becoming more expensive. In view of this, there is an acute need for developing safe and cheap energy sources across the world. In Europe, this trend was outlined in the 80s. Russia started showing an interest in alternative energy sources a few years later, but it has already achieved huge success.Owing to a draft law adopted in 2007, Russia built its first solar power station. The Russian government’s interest is linked first and foremost to the long-term prospects of the country in this area, says the director of the Solar Energy Association, Anton Usachev.
