We all wanted Microsoft Office on our iPhones. So Microsoft has finally paid heed. It's brought a new app for iPhone that allows us to use word, excel and powerpoint on our iPhones. Is this app for us all? Really ? Not really! Only the subscribers of Office 365 can use it. It's a free download from iTunes Store , going by the name Office Mobile for iPhone. Again, free for the subscribers of Microsoft's Office 365 Home Premium and ProPlus service. What makes the usage more limited is the functional boundaries, for example you will only be correcting and editing your existing working and sharing the files but not creating them. Then you can store the files directly on Microsoft SkyDrive. You can't store them on Apple's iCloud service with this app. The app is currently available in USA only. It'll soon be available internationally ; Microsoft spokeswoman said. The new app has added more value to the existing Office 365 Subscribers. iPhone is having over 350 million users all over the world. Office 365 has only 1 million subscribers worldwide so this new app will not make a big appeal for the Apple users. Furthermore, Offcie Mobile for iPhone is not optimized for Apple's iPads. Only iPhones. To iPad users Microsoft suggests that they use Office web services. It suggests the same to Android users as well and so it hasn't launched an app for Android either. Microsoft Office comes pre-installed on the phones having Windows Phone OS. This gives Microsoft some share into the market which is dominated by phones using iOS and Google's Android operating system. This is one major reason Microsoft has allowed limited version of its Office to the iOS. Secondly the Office 365 will get a boosted promotion. Source: SAM Daily Times
