PM Modi travels by Metro to flag off Faridabad line

Age Correspondent: Passengers chat, click selfies with Modi: Inaugurating the much-awaited Badarpur-Faridabad corridor on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed hope that the Metro corridor will give impetus to economic growth in the region. Mr Modi boarded the Metro at the Violet Line’s (Line 6) Janpath station at around 10 am.Mr Modi took passengers and Metro officials by surprise as earlier he was scheduled to take a chopper to Faridabad. He was accompanied by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation chief Mangu Singh. He interacted with the regular commuters, who also took selfies with the Prime Minister. He said that the Metro connectivity would be extended further in Haryana up to Ballabhgarh to link an important part of the state with the national capital. The Prime minister said that the new section could help boost employment opportunities in this key industrial hub of Harayana.“Haryana has the biggest potential to attract tourists from Delhi,” he said, adding that people could use the Metro especially for weekend excursions, which would provide livelihood opportunities for the youth. The PM also highlighted how the newly-built section is using clean energy in the form of solar power to generate around two megawatts (peak) to help run its operations. “In the coming days, how clean and environment-friendly railway stations can be created, is the direction in which the Metro is running a successful campaign,” he said. Source: The Asian Age
