Joe Biden, the winner of the US presidential election, has set a target of COVID vaccinating 100 million people within the first 100 days after taking office.
“COVID will not leave the country in the first 100 days of my tenure at the White House,” Biden said at a press conference in the Delaware state on Tuesday, local time, the BBC reported.
“I cannot promise that the country will be COVID-free in this period. We have fallen into the virus crisis gradually, not speedily. We even can’t get out of this swiftly.”
“But in the first 100 days, we can reduce the severity of the disease and lead the country towards welfare,” Joe Biden said.
He warned that if Congress could not end bilateral talks and provide emergency funding, efforts to stop COVID-19 could be slow and stagnant. “Returning children to school is also a priority,” said the veteran leader of the Democratic Party.
Biden gave some guidance at a press conference on how to conduct the largest vaccination program in US history.
Biden complained last week incumbent US President Donald Trump’s administration still had not informed him of any plans for the availability of the COVID vaccine.
At the press conference, Biden nominated Attorney General of the State of California Xavier Becerra as the Secretary of Health and Human Services. He also selected Dr. Rochelle Walensky as head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).Meanwhile, Trump attended a meeting at the White House on the COVID vaccination program called “Operation Warp Speed”.
