Female journalist shot dead in Afghanistan

Gunmen shot dead a female television journalist in Jalalabad city, capital of Afghanistan’s eastern Nangarhar province on Thursday, reports Xinhua.

Malalai Maiwand, a reporter at Enikas Radio and TV in Nangarhar, also a women’s rights activist, was killed along with her driver in the attack on their vehicle in Jalalabad.

The killing of Malalai Maiwand taking the total number of journalists and media workers killed this year in Afghanistan to 10.

Attaullah Khogiani, a provincial government spokesman, said, “Malalai Miwand who worked for a private radio and TV station was gunned down by unidentified armed men in Jalalabad city in the morning rush hour today and culprits made their escape.”

She was on the way to the office when the incident happened, he added.
