One dead, 300 hospitalized as ‘mysterious disease’ hits India

A mysterious disease has occurred in Andhra Pradesh, India, claimed one life and hospitalized around 300 people in a week with the disease, Times of India and Tribune India reported. 

According to the Times of India, the incident took place in Iluru town in West Godavari district of the state. The administration has launched an investigation into why so many people are getting sick.

Doctors said the victims were from the Eluru area of ​​Andhra Pradesh. One of the symptoms of the disease is fainting and loss of consciousness while vomiting.

Many beds have been arranged at Eluru government hospital for the treatment of the victims of this mysterious disease, as a result, India is struggling to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak in the country. 

The patient who died was undergoing treatment at the hospital, even as local health authorities remained clueless about the disease or what had triggered the symptoms in people living in a vast area with no common epidemiological link. – Times of India.

According to local media reports, The “mysterious” disease infected underwent the COVID test, but they all tested negative. 

A medical officer at Eluru government hospital told the Indian Express that children, especially those affected by the disease, had irritated eyes and suddenly started vomiting. Some of them become unconscious or have convulsions. However, those who were admitted to the hospital recovered and were released from the hospital.

“Blood tests showed no evidence that the disease was viral,” said Andhra Pradesh Health Minister Alla Kali Krishna Srinivas. 

He said officials have visited the affected areas. “We don’t think this is due to water or air pollution. It’s a very mysterious illness. Only experiments in the lab can unravel this mystery,” he added.The Telugu Desam Party, the opposition party of the state’s ruling party, has called for an inquiry into the incident, claiming that the unknown disease has occurred due to “pollution”. Source: https://www.daily-bangladesh.com
