The government led by Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte has resigned over the scandal of making false allegations of fraud that was brought against thousands of families for taking money from the Child Welfare Fund.
Prime Minister Rutte has submitted his resignation letter to the country’s King, the BBC reported on Friday.
With just two months before the election, Prime Minister Mark Rutte called an emergency Cabinet meeting in The Hague. When there was a unanimous decision, the Prime Minister formally submitted his resignation to King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands.According to the BBC, tax authorities in the Netherlands charged 26,000 families with fraud in obtaining assistance from the Child Welfare Fund between 2019 to 2019. Those families were forced to return the aid money. As a result, many families are in dire financial straits. Many families have also lost their homes, even the incidence of divorce occurred.
