State of emergency in Japan; Olympics be held without spectators

- Tamayo Marukawa made the announcement after discussions with officials and organizers on Thursday evening.
- Meanwhile, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga told reporters that the state of emergency would remain in place from July 12 to August 22.
- After meeting government officials, Tokyo 2020 President Seiko Hashimoto said it is regrettable that the Games will be held in a very limited format. “I am sorry to those who purchased tickets and everyone in local areas,” he added.
