Just enough money, honey...

Love matters: Sharmita and Tony Bhinder, Dr Jastinder and Dr Harpreet Gill, Mohita Saxena and Kunal Gupta
As the country eagerly awaits what Finance Minister Arun Jaitley holds in his bag, celebs from the entertainment industry share their wishlist
  • Jasmine Singh: Kya acha hai, kya bura hai...sab yahin reh jaana hai... The government at the Centre can probably look at this as their next logo because the aam janta is still confused whether, they are living under the umbrella of good days or not. But as Morgan Freeman in the film The Shawshank Redemption said, ‘hope is a good thing, maybe one of the best things,’ the citizens of this country are still hoping against hope that at least Finance Minister Arun Jaitley might release some good news from his briefcase, which holds the key to many decisions, to be taken at many households, at many work places, at various factories, at swanky offices, in rickety shops, in the glitzy cubicles of entertainment. It’s time for the Union budget 2016 and celebrities contrary to what we think ‘have enough already’ spell out their expectations...No hope: In the last year’s Union budget the media and entertainment sector did not find much mention, so this year I don’t have any expectations. Like director Prakash Jha mentioned in one of his interviews, that entertainment industry doesn’t exist for the country, and I feel the same. So, I don’t have any wishlist for this budget.  Roshan Prince, singer, actor & producer Social cause: I want that the rebate income tax slab should be increased from 2.5 lakhs to 10 lakhs and we should also be given GST. As a producer, I would want that the service tax should be reduced so that producers making films on social issues should get subsidies from the government.
  • Rrupaali Gupta, producer: Subsidy wise: First and foremost, I am not into this subsidy business, the government should be offering subsidy to films that offer quality cinema, which is good in content. The government should constitute a panel of people related to the film world that have cinematic sensibilities to select, which films should get subsidy. In this way, we will only have producers who are serious about their investment.
  • Diljit Dosanjh, singer-actor: Producing benefits: Ideally, the budget should be pocket-friendly, which is a rare phenomenon. For the entertainment industry, especially in Punjab, I would like to see special economy zones, something like a rebate in the investment of post-production studios, so that the film cast doesn’t have to run to Mumbai to finish their post-production work. Secondly, the producers should get a rebate from the government so that more producers come forward and invest money.
  • Munish Sahni, film distributor: Local affairs: The budget allocated for culture is always good enough; the big problem is that by the time it reaches the local level, its volume reduces to a great extent. This time I would want that the budget allocation for local theatre and cultural societies should be high.
  • Ranjit Roy, director Chandigarh Art Theatre: Taxing affair: I would first of all want clear guidelines on how to actually treat payments for content production. This should actually be treated as work and not fees for technical services. All this will give a better clarity on the applicability of withholding taxes.
  • Arvindr Khaira (video director jasmine@tribunemail.com): Take it easy policy: I would like to see a change in the way 'U' certificate is given. Ideally, there is a good amount of subsidy on films with a U certificate, but the process to get it is really tough. Even if actor shouts, the film is quickly given a 'U/A' rating saying that it is a violent film. How are we expected to make films then? Crackling effect

Actor Mahie Gill turns producer for Punjabi film Aatishbaaze Ishq. She shares her experiences from the behind the camera this time Jasmine SinghThere are some syllables that perfectly fit the bill, when it comes to sultry and a good mix of traditional looking actress Mahie Gill. I still feel if we put in our best in all the departments, we can still have a good Punjabi film,” says she. Mahie plays a very different character in the film, something that Punjabi cinema hasn’t seen before. “I play a hockey coach who is a motor-mouth, she does all the chores herself,” adds Mahie who talks about the film that also introduces Ravi. “It is basically a story of three athletes, where Roshan Prince plays the role of a boxer and Ravi is the wrestler. The DOP of our the film Raja has won national award for work in Marathi cinema,” adds the actress who is hopeful that this romantic film will strike a rapport with the audience. With the new role of a producer, Mahie definitely knows it is an added responsibility. “Not many people know that I have produced a short film earlier Navaad, which was widely appreciated. In the end it is all about team work.” There is another word that has come to settle in her dictionary- challenging! “Indeed, producing a film is tough, I ensure that the problems I faced as an actor, my crew doesn’t have to face that. All the same, I am thankful that I have a supportive crew and everyone is pitching in their best for the film.” The film stars actor singer Roshan Prince as well. “He is a lovely singer and a good actor, the amount of hard work he is putting in the film is simply amazing,” shares the actress who doesn’t believe in making up anything. The film has famous choreographer and now actor Ganesh Acharya whipping up the main dance and song sequences. Sunidhi Chauhan, Neeti Mohan, Sudesh Kumari, Roshan Prince and Labh Janjua have sung for Aatishbaazi Ishq while Shubarna has done the costumes. "Not many people know that I have produced a short film earlier Mavaad, which was widely appreciated. So, when I decided to produce this Punjabi film, there were people who stood by me."— Mahie Gill , jasmine@tribunemail.com, Source: Article

Emraan Hashmi is a darling: Amyra Dastur

Actress Amyra Dastur is simple, sociable and dreamy. The happy-go-lucky girl, who will be seen in Bhatt camps’ Emraan Hashmi-starrer Mr. X, reveals that before this project she was quite apprehensive about being stereotyped as a desi damsel because of Isaaq. “My debut flick Isaaq didn’t do well at the box office at all. On one end, it was panned in a major way but on the other, surprisingly, I received tons of appreciation from people who liked my performance. So that was the saving grace. However, after Isaaq, I started thinking that people will only offer me the role of a desi or village girl and I will soon be a victim of stereotyping. I am extremely thankful that nothing of the sort happened. Going from playing a village damsel in my first film to a high-end under-cover detective in my second is like a dream come true for me,” the actress reveals. She goes on to add that Mukesh Bhatt had approached her out of the blue for this movie. “I got a call from Mukesh ji from nowhere and he told me to come in to his office. He also informed me that he had been thinking about starting a project and had a feeling that they would need an actress just like me. After meeting him and Mahesh Bhatt saab, I got to know that they were not looking for someone who had got a pretty face but also someone who could act and was physically fit. However, they clearly told me that nothing was confirmed until the movie’s director Vikram (Bhatt) gave his nod. So, I had to meet the whole Bhatt khandaan before I got a final confirmation signal,” Amrya laughs. Talking about her role in Mr. X, she shares, “I am playing the role of a girl called Siya Verma, who has had a troubled life which the audience will get to see as the story unfolds in the latter part of the movie. She is an undercover detective and doesn’t trust men. Her love interest in the movie is Emraan who somehow gets into a big accident. Their life comes to a point where Siya’s sole aim is to hunt down Emraan’s character and put him to rest. She has a very cold personality as opposed to my real self but it was cool to play her as I got to do stunts and fights. As I was told that there will be a lot of running sequences involved throughout the movie, I did Pilates, weight training and yoga to prepare for the role,” Putting forth her initial reservations and reactions towards working with co-star Emraan Hashmi aka “Kissing King of Bollywood”, Amrya shares, “As soon as I heard Bhatt saab and Vikram (Bhatt) telling me that Emraan is going to be my co-star, the initial questions that I asked them were, ‘Are there going to be any kissing or intimate scenes? And was this a U/A or an A movie?’ Because I wasn’t sure if I’ll be comfortable doing intimate scenes. I told them clearly that I was totally not in favour of them also because I stay with my parents and family and I don’t think they would be comfortable with it either. Everyone just laughed and informed me that there weren’t going to be any intimate scenes and it was a U/A movie. As for kissing scenes, there were four in totality out of which two were with Emraan and in the rest I would be kissing no one. I just had to enact them and in the movie it would be shown as if I was kissing Mr. X (who is invisible). They also asked me if I’d be willing to wear a bikini and I told them that I won’t. However, I told them that I could wear a swimming costume instead. So they were fine.” Besides all of this, how was working with Emraan? “He is a darling in real life. I adore his sense of humour and he never once made me feel like he was a superstar and I needed to act like a junior or something. He is a completely normal guy with no airs about him,” she affirms. I'm a big Rajinikanth fan, says Shah Rukh Khan!

Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan Sunday told he is such a big fan of Rajinikanth that he decided to attend the audio launch of his movie "Kochadaiiyaan". "I came here for three reasons. Firstly, like all of you, I am a big Rajinikanth fan," Shah Rukh said journalists at the launch. Reminiscing his earlier days, SRK told that many years ago when he landed in Mumbai, he went to see the shooting of a Hindi film starring Rajinikanth and learned an important lesson after observing the southern megastar. "I saw from far away that he was standing in front of a big mirror and practising throwing cigarette in his mouth. There were a lot of actors minding their own business, but Rajini sir kept on practising. He was getting it right like he does every time in the film, but he kept practising. That's one of my learning lessons of my life because someone of his talent and stature keeps on working so hard," he told. The second main reason is friendship, told SRK. "I was in need of a lot of help during the making of 'Ra One', and I would like to thank Rajini sir, Soundarya and Lata ma'am for helping me out overnight. I have come as a friend because whenever I came to Chennai or Tamil Nadu, all of you have given me so much of love," he further added. Talking about the third reason, SRK said: "I came here as a seeker of knowledge because the films made here actually make our country the proudest. The movies by K. Balachander sir, Shankar sir and so many others have taught so much in cinema." Shah Rukh, who recently paid tribute to Rajinikanth through the song "Lungi Dance" in "Chennai Express", crooned a few lines of the song on stage for the megastar. The film has been directed by Rajinikanth's daughter Soundarya. SRK told he is thrilled about "Kochadaiiyaan" as it has been made using motion capture photo-realistic technology. "I was extremely excited when four years ago Soundarya talked about her ambitious project because this is going to change cinema in this country. I believe this technology is going to be one of the finest steps in Indian film industry," he told. Also starring Jackie Shroff, Shobana, R. Sarath Kumar, Aadi Pinisetty, Nasser and Rukmini, "Kochadaiiyaan" will release April 11 worldwide. Source: Article

The whole world is male dominated: Madhuri Dixit

Mumbai, Dec 14 (IANS) Actress Madhuri Dixit, busy promoting her forthcoming women-centric drama "Dedh Ishqiya", admits that the world is male dominated and it's up to a woman how she makes a mark for herself. "The whole world is male dominated, not just this industry," she said when asked whether the option gets narrowed down for an actress post-marriage and does she feel that the film industry is male dominated. "There will be this difference, but it is up to a woman to make a mark for herself and fight for her rights. Woman has to work two times harder than men to prove herself again and again. Sachin Tendulkar takes up educational charity

Sachin Tendulkar takes up educational charity: Mumbai, Mumbai, Thu, 04 Jun 2009, (ANI): Taking an inspirationfrom his late father who was committed to certain social responsibilities, India's batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar has decided to sponsor the education of 200 children, who are part of Anapalya, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) in Mumbai. A formal function to mark this dedication by Tendulkar was organised here on Wednesday. Addressing a press conference under the Give India campaign, conceptualised by another NGO, Tendulkar said that during his childhood every penny in his house mattered but his father, a teacher by profession, made sure that a newspaper boy who used to deliver newspapers in the colony should be provided with money so that he could pursue his college career. "A newspaper vendor in the morning used to be a teenager; selling newspaper in the morning and pursued his education. My father being a professor exactly understood the difficulty and inspite of not having enough money with himself he was prepared to help him out and take care of his college fees," he said. He say he believed that the 'Joy of Giving Week' campaign that takes place between September 27- October 4 every year will aim to induce people from all walks of life to donate money, time or simple acts of kindness making the society and the country a happier place to live in. "Such things in life can make a huge difference not only to us as an individual but if you are looking at the entire nation and if every individual decides to take responsibility then it's going to be a happier place," he added. Tendulkar is considered to be the greatest batsmen in the cricket history being the highest run scorer in both Testmatches and One Day Internationals, and also the batsman with the most centuries in either form of the game for India.
